I have a toilet that I installed back in the mid 90s. Lately it's been giving up problems with not shutting off the water after it's been flushed.

I've replaced all the components in the tank but still have the issue. Also, I was told they no longer make the washer that seal the tank to the bowl (toilet is too old).

Can anyone shed some light on why this continues to happen?

One other thing to add is the bowl has turned black as we have well water.

Thanks,

Phil

The fill valve is probably adjusted to high if it won’t shut off. Either that or the fill valve you bought is defective. What brand is the toilet I may be able to send you a link to parts that would work on it

1. How high is the water in the tank vs the overflow?
2. If you close the stop valve at the wall/floor, what happens to the water level?
3. I know it is hard to let go after you already put in a lot of effort, but a new toilet would solve your problems.
