Not sure who the culprit is. (Florida) I have a 5 yo Kenmore 350 Softener and a 2 yo AO Smith water heater. Im getting hard water for a month now, I first suspected the softener, I cleaned venturi, screens etc and she is using salt up normally, (no bridge) and drawing the water fine and float is free. I used a resin cleaner twice, It seemed to help slightly but only for a day. The water heater on the other hand has been clunking occasionally when using hot water, I assume from a bed of sediment. My question is, can a mineral build up be defeating the softeners function? My next step would be to drain the water heater, but Im seeing so many opinions that it is a waste of time. So my main question is can the sediments in the water heater be working against the softener, and is a draining recommended.
