Shower on slab level of split level home, I tore out yesterday, not 100% sure what I’m looking at but I never disconnected the pan from the drain, after I pulled it up, this is what I was looking at. It doesn’t seem like the drain pipe was ever connected based on its orientation and depth, and the fact that, again, I never disconnected anything. I’m assuming that somehow this has been draining partially to the dirt under the slab as you can see in the pictures.

It does drain (poured water down it and it goes down). Any thoughts on how to get this flush and relatively centered for my new pan install? Or just a matter of playing around with different fittings? It’s basically angled as such that it’s touching the pvc. My thought was cut it down so I have a little more room and it’s not so far out of center to start with and go from there. Thanks for the advice in advance.

You may have already started you project, but asking a couple questions just for discussion.

What type of floor did you have (prefabricated or tiled)?

If tiles, was there some PVC liner attached to the drain, or what type of drain did you have?

What are you planning on installing (prefab or tile)?

You need to excavate and probably break concrete to see what the piping looks like.
