Moved into house (built in 1905) in December. It still has the cast iron toilet drain and main stack. We have been getting an intermittent sewer smell in the house/basement since about late April/early May. It never smelled in the cool months of December - March.

Just doing some observation---the past couple of weeks, the weather has been cooler and less humid...no sewer smell. It has been hot and humid again the past 3 days (highs in 90+/lows in 70+) and this morning the smell is back.

My working theory is that the heavy moist air outside is not allowing sewer gas to escape out the roof vent, causing it to stay in the house. Does this seem plausible at all? And if so, ideas how to fix it?

As always, thanks for the help!
