I'm doing some renovations on an old 3-family building. The main trunk runs horizontally toward the back of the building. Halfway thru the building a riser tees off from 1" down to 3/4" with an old gate valve in between. That 3/4" riser tees off on every floor. The knob on the gate valve is stuck and I don't want to try to turn it forcefully. Looks like everything is brass.
I'm going to shut off the water at the front of the building, then check to see if its holding. There's a 1/2" copper line off the 3/4" line pictured with a sharkbite cap on it. If that works I'll cut the 3/4" riser and try to wrench off the stub. Then try to wrench off the gate valve and nipple.
Then replace with 1" copper teeing off to 3/4 for each floors' branch line.
The pipes don't appear to be corroded. That's plaster dust sitting on the tee.
I'll have a 1" cap and plug on hand if things go south.
Any tips?
