I'm in the planning stages of a home bathroom remodel. Currently installed is a Lasco 26030 CTGL (30 years old) 1 piece tub/surround.

Measuring the current alcove, it's 58 inches wide drywall to drywall. It's 1/2 inch drywall, so that should be a 59 inches stud to stud alcove.

I'm deciding between doing a tub with shower surround or a one piece tub/shower combo. I'm leaning toward the one piece.

Problem is I haven't found anything that would fit the 59 inch width for the alcove.

Should I be thinking about modifying the width of the alcove (basically cutting into the 2x4s) or am I stuck going with a much smaller tub?

Any thoughts appreciated.
