Hi all,

Our house is about 15 years old, and the Brasscraft multi-turn valves on the toilets are all pretty stiff to the point of being concerned I'll twist something apart if I need to turn them off (just left the country for two weeks, so I shut the toilets off as a precaution, so I noticed it then).

I found a rebuild kit at Home Depot for a few bucks and rebuilt one of them with that. It now works like new, but the valve stem is plastic vs. the brass one that was in the valve originally. Is there a source for a kit with a brass stem? All the kits I see have plastic stems. Maybe the plastic is okay...I just don't love it. If that one gets as sticky as the original did, it would no doubt snap off, leaving me to sweat a whole new valve on (certainly not the end of the world, but would like to avoid it if I can).

I figured it was worth asking here before I rebuilt the others. Any advice here would be appreciated!

You might try using waterproof plumbers silicone grease to rebuild the multi-turn with the old brass stems.
Replacing with quarter turn stainless steel ball modern valves is the ideal choice.
