Hi all,

I humbly ask for the advice of the wise here....

I have several 3/4" mip threaded brass nipples that are part of a gas tank water heater install. Three out of four have very small chips/defects in the threads. Are those chips acceptable (y'know - amateurs and mountains vs. molehills and all that), or should I swap them out? And, if I should swap them, is there a brand you'd recommend?

Thanks, everyone, for any help you can offer. Always appreciate the quality of the info & insight I find on here. And happy Friday!

Thank you, @Reach4 and @Breplum.

I see your point, @Breplum, about if it's part of a chain of fittings or not - and it is. Good to know about those rethread chasers, @Reach4.

I'll see about returning to the supplier first and then the re-thread route. I haven't done any metal machining type work before so it could be an excuse to explore.

Thanks - yet again! - for your help. Have a great weekend

I would follow both advice - chase the threads first and use dope and teflon tape.
