Pump starting

I have a deep well with a 5 horse pump on it. I had the pressure tank develop a hole so I replaced it yesterday. It was working fine when I left. Today when I went to the farm I noticed that when the pump tried to come on that the control box would call for the pump to come on 10 to 15 times before the pump would start and then it would kick off just fine. I may have not explained it just perfectly. Every time the contractor would engage you could see the pipe to the pump jump so the pump was pumping. the tank is 120 gallon pressure tank and there is a brand new 40/60 pressure with on it also. The controller for the pump has 3 different capacitors in the box. Anyone no what the problem might be

Maybe too much air in the tank. Sounds like it might be rapid cycling.

That would indicate that the pressure switch was coming on and off 10 to 15 times . It is the pressure switch that controls the relay in the control box.

So as Valveman says, the air precharge may be too high. The precharge air pressure should usually be 2 PSI below the cut-in pressure.

If the air precharge is not too high, the pressure switch may be too separated from the input of the pressure tank.
