I have an existing concrete well that is about 1.5ft in dia and 20ft to water level with about 6ft of water depth. Our soil is sandy. The well had power and a defunct surface pump. The circuit was scavenged when the house was remodeled so there's no power there now. The well is immediately adjacent to my garden and, as a "prepping for the apocalypse" measure, I'd like to be able to pull water from the well to water the garden. I'm looking for suggestions on pump type and other tips. I could see this being hand pumped or driven by some bicycle pedal type contraption. I'd like to keep both costs and maintenance low. This is truly just a SHTF contingency. Just looking for something that is simple reliable and serviceable with easily sourced parts if necessary. What would be the best way to go?
