This shower is probably 50 years old, but I've only been in the house about 30 years. It's a stand alone tiled shower which has a typical shower head and a lower capped pipe nipple sticking out of the wall below the valve (not sure why that's there). It doesn't get used much and previously worked OK, but it started only producing a trickle of water when the valve was fully opened (pulled out), so I replaced the cartridge, twice now. Once with a Danko model and then with a PF 974-2920 model, but all behave the same way. Both the upper and lower outlets produce only a trickle when the valve is fully opened.
I've tried turning the water on to my house with no cartridge installed and tons of water comes out, so there's not an input problem.
As best I can tell, there's not a restriction in either output pipe with the shower head and/or the lower nipple cap removed. I only get a trickle of water.
With the cartridge installed, I get about 1/2 inch of play between pulled out to the limit and fully seated. As best I can tell when looking at the cartridge, this seems about the normal throw.
Unfortunately the valve is mounted on an outside wall that is bricked, so it's not a simple job to just change the whole valve.
Anyone in the brain trust here have any suggestions?
