Hello folks,

I have been dealing with a chattering pressure switch issue on pump cut-in and can't seem to resolve it, yet...

It's a 30-50 switch, currently set at 35-55psi. The setup has a 2gal Well-X-Trol just next to the pump and the main Flowtec tank sits about 30' directly to the left of the picture I attached. It has functioned just fine for many years until recently.

When the pump cuts-in, the switch will chatter 3-4 times as the pressure gauge bounces wildly before it settles in. A back pressure issue, I would assume.

What I have done:

a) Removed the pressure from the system and made sure the air pressure in both tanks was set at 32-33psi.
b) Replaced the pressure switch with a new unit. Contacts on the old one looked a little burnt.
c) Removed and inspected the tubing from the regulator to the switch - all clear.

The issue prevails.

One thing I noticed is that when the pump achieves cut-out pressure, the corresponding pressure in the main Flowtec tank increases as expected, however, the pressure in the small Well-X-Trol remains at 32-33psi. Is this normal? It doesn't seem so, but I am not sure and that is why I am seeking advise from you pros!

Thank you!

The only purpose of the 2 gallon tank is to cushion the pressure switch because the large tank is too far away to help. No, it is not correct for the pressure in the little tank to be 33 when everything else is higher. There is a restriction between the small tank and the blue line that attaches to the pressure switch or the tank itself is bad. A vertical jet pump should build a lot more pressure if you want it, and now would be a good time to start getting strong constant pressure to the house. The Flotec tank is probably on its way out, as they don't last long from the pump cycling either.

Thank you for the reply. In my case, the blue line runs from the pressure switch to the pressure control valve. Could the pressure control valve be contributing to the issue? The 2 gallon tank ties in to the output line that runs over to the larger Flowtec tank. Pressure in the Flowtec tank rises to about 48-49psi at pump cut out of 55psi.

Thanks again!
