I'm trying to figure out a tub location in a garage second floor remodel, and I'm dealing with existing tripled 2x6 floor joists, so space is limited and drilling through the joists which run perpendicular to the tub arrangement isn't ideal.

Looking at a previous TLP forum sketch, (below) could the p-trap be located in the adjoining wall space, roughed in 90 degrees to the direction of the tub drain? I think this sketch approximately shows that.

In addition, I'm thinking I could use a tub model with an above-floor drain, so little cutting in existing 2x6 joists would be required. The adjoining wall is an interior wall with no possibility of freezing.

Let me know if I'm thinking about this all wrong.. or how to work with a similar concept so joists don't need to be cut or drilled so much.
Thanks in Advance,

Bob
