My softener ran a cycle last night, now there is no water in the salt tank. Never seen this happen before. How can I fix this?

I’m just now realizing that I may have had too much water in the brine tank the whole time. I’ve had this system for about 8 months and there’s always been water in the brine tank a few inches below the salt level. Should I see water in the brine tank?

The cabinet type softeners, typically have no water in the brine tank until regen time.

For separate-tank type softeners, there is a setting. Since you used to have water, I suspect water is the right thing for your softener. Water in the tank most of the time is the most common for separate-tank type softeners.
