No flange ring…?

Remodeling my ground-floor bathroom on a slab. Removed the toilet and found that the guy before me had the toilet on top of this, with one of those two-piece encircling metal flange repair kits that wasn’t firmly attached to anything. The toilet was, essentially, held in place with caulk…but it never leaked or rocked on us over many years.
House was built in the 50s and the drain is not ABS or PVC.
The scaling inside the pipe comes off easily, so my question is: can I get away with cleaning the pipe and using a twist-n-seal flange and anchoring it to the slab with tap-cons?
(toe for scale, lol)
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, in advance!

That could work. Did you measure the ID as 4.0 or 3.0 inches?

Depending on what you see, you might be better off with a metal repair ring held down by tapcons. Some have ears that can let you screw into intact concrete rather than staying inside of the 6 or 7 inch circle. Without ears, you usually have screw hole centers on a 6.125 inches circle.

Did you try to attach a photo? 900 pixels and 200 KB max. JPEG preferred.

Take the rag out for the photo. Shoot from maybe 45 degrees off of plumb.

Thanks for the reply. I did try to post a pic…too large. Will try again. The inner ring of pale crud inside the circumference of the pipe is friable. The pipe itself seems to be round…ID looks like 3.75”.

https://www.supplyhouse.com/sh/control/search/~SEARCH_STRING=push-tite closet flange could be an alternative -- not that twist-n-seal flange would not do the job also. The Push-tite might have the advantage of getting the ring placement where you want maybe easier. In the old days, you could get Push-tite with a stainless steel ring.

Your hole seems raggedy in the photo, and the depth of the seal will need to be appropriate.

When using Tapcons, drill deeper than the screw will reach, and blow out the debris before inserting the screw.

Nice. Thank you!
Is the 3.75” ID unusual?
Should I go with a 4” or 3”, if I go the twist-in route? Or does the odd diameter rule out this option?

3.75” ID is unusual. I don't know what is going to fit that.

If you can find that flange in a store, you could measure the smallest ID the 4-inch will fit. I have my doubts it will fit 3.75, but seems worth checking.

If you want to use approximately what you had before, you can get that in single piece. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-1...ilet-Flange-Replacement-Ring-427782/303864005

I would then use a wax ring with a horn.

Alternatively, consider the DANCO Model 10672X Hydroseat. It may fit your needs. Read up on it. You put a normal wax ring under it. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DANCO-HydroSeat-Stainless-Steel-Toilet-Flange-Repair-10672X/204403879
It has its own built-in horn.

Again, many thanks.
I have a hydro-seat still in the box from my last DIY…maybe I’ll give it a try.
Cheers!
