New washer, now have a violent water hammer

got a new washer and when it closes the valve after a rinse or fill i get a very violent bang in the cold water pipe...what can i do?

In the meantime, close the water shut off valve some to slow down the water flow.

Yes. The cold will get more workout, but might as well while you are at it.

Most codes expect that you will be installing hammer arrestors on the washer box.
