Need help with shallow well jet pump replacement

Our old pump is wearing out and won't build enough pressure to shut off, so it needs to be replaced. I would like to get more pressure than we have currently. My husband is deployed, his brother is willing to change the pump but doesn't know enough about them to recommend which one to get. Appreciate any help!

Is there any benefit to (or concern with) upgrading to a 3/4 hp pump?
It looks like cast is a bit more than plastic, seems worth it to get a better pump?

Have you tried cleaning the jet with a wire?

A coat hanger used to be a common wire to use. A piece of 12 AWG copper wire might be easier to find today.

No, I haven't. We have been in this house 18 years and the pump wasn't new when we got here. I called the pump manufacturer and they couldn't even tell me how old it is So I just planned on replacing it.

A good pump is important. But it is the pump control that makes it deliver strong constant pressure and last a long time, or not. I would use a J7S or a J10S Goulds and PK1A control kit.
