I have the following old Grohe shower/bathtub valve that has developed a leak which is dripping water earlier today, I do not know what year/model it is except it matches the handle for the bathroom sink faucet which is Grohe which came with the purchase house in 2009. What I want to know is what replacement part do I need and how do I actually get to the valve as seen in the photos, I have taken some parts off but I could not take the front part off which is labeled as 2 in the photos to see the actual valve itself. Also, one of the three clips for the faceplate which is labeled as 1 in the photos broke so not sure if that is replaceable as I could repair the clip but what type of adhesive will be best for this?

Cartridge is 46048000
part #2 just pulls off (it is friction fitted over an o-ring)
once 2 is removed you will gain access to the cartridge.
good luck

Many thanks! I have a few questions, does 46209(5.1) come with 46048000?

It looks like to replace the cartridge, one does not even have to remove Pos 3/3.1.

My other question is to replace the cartridge as there is no shutoff valve for the water before the Shower Valve, I would basically have to shutoff the main water supply which will take care of the cold water side as well as the incoming water line at the water heater to take care of the hot water. There is no shutoff valve on the out on the water heater so my question is will it need to drain the entire water heater to change the valve since I would think the cold side would not lose much water since there is no water pressure pushing the water but not sure how it works for the hot water side. The other question I have is, what years was this shower valve actually available? Thanks!

-The cartridge (46048000) is complete with the gaskets (5.1) .......
-Unscrew the plate from the wall anyway so you have full unrestricted access to your valve.....
...The cold water street shut off will turn both your hot and cold water off

@TJRAD - Am I reading the picture correctly that 1 includes 1.1 and 3 includes 3.1?
Good point since it's really just two screws.
Yes, I know the cold main valve will shutoff both but it seems like if one shuts off the handle on the water heater as well, then it will limit more cold water from going into the hot water side.

I am waiting for GROHE to process the warranty claim for the cartridge. Today, I decided to take apart the valve further and shut off the water main and basically, there remains only a small flow of water. The cartridge does have 46048 stamped on it and then there is 03 95 which is stamped crooked elsewhere, which probably means March 1995 or 3rd week of 1995 if I had to guess. But anyways, how does one actually remove the seal kit (5.1 in the diagram) as it seems like from looking at mines, the seals seems to have melted or something as for the two seals on the bottom which is the input for hot and cold water, there is the black stuff on the upper corner on top of the valve itself.

Part #2 doesn't actually pull off as it's basically a screwed on cover that goes on a threaded black ring with threads.

Many thanks in advance!

The rubber will pull off/out, looks like there may be springs behind them.

What I meant is, when looking at the picture on the left, both the lower rubber pieces has like that big piece of rubber that looks like it was spread out that like it had melted that is touching the screw holes. The upper hole on the top seems to have that loose inner rubber ring that is not attached to the outer rubber piece.

I finally received the warranty replacement cartridge #46048000 from Grohe yesterday, Sunday by FedEx Ground.

This has a April 4, 2025 manufacturing date and the cartridge appears to be an improved design where it no longer uses gaskets as the old one had female openings while the new one has male openings with the seal integrated into the cartrdige which also acts as a suction type of seal as even with the water supply off, when the screw is loosen, it will jet spray water out. I removed the original rubber gaskets and just as I suspected in the previous posts in the thread, the rubber that is outside of the O for the hot and water supply were actually stuck to the valve which I had to remove using Goof Off! which is Acetone and Xylene. The blue one on the right is the replacement and they redesign the cartridge as even the metal bracket that sits on front is different since the position of the holes are different and the new one has ridges:

The left 2 screws are the old original screws that I am currently using and the right 2 screws came with the new replacement cartridge:

Part #4 - Handle Rotation Stop is no longer used which is this part:

as the provided instructions does not even show this part in the diagram and this is hard plastic and if one looks at the photos of the original vs replacement cartridge, it can be seen that the bottom of the front circle is no longer round so the entire piece will not fit.

I was able to use the front piece but had to remove the inner black piece that won't fit:

I was able to fix the broken middle tab on the cover/cap using JB Weld original Steel Epoxy:

I would like to take this time for everyone who provided help earlier in this thread as it is greatly appreciated.
