Hi all, have just joined the forum for some advice on our borehole water treatment system. This is a very simple system with a pressure tank and AIO 10/54 filox filter with clack air injection valve. I have had a water test done on the raw water which has iron at 0.7mg/l, Manganese 0.35mg/l and is at pH7.25. Water is very hard at 236mg/l CaCO3. The water at the tap was tested and the iron was at 127microgrammes/l, manganese 335microgrammes/l. So it is clear the manganese is not being removed. I have checked backwash flow rate which was 45.8 lpm. Have checked injector which is making gurgling noise and orifice is clear.
I am hoping that someone can advise why the manganese is not being removed by our system. It appears to have worked fine in the past - we had a test done 5 years ago and iron and manganese were 15.6 & 27.2 microgrammes/l respectively, pH then was 6.72.
I am wondering if the pH is too low but it is higher now than at the previous test? Perhaps the media needs to be replaced (it was re-bedded a year ago at the annual service).
Is there a solution to this issue without installing a water softener?
Many thanks for your help. IRON NUT!!
