Hi everyone,
Given all the great information on this forum I'm looking to take on my softener rebed myself. This is a Kinetico Essential Platinum with 1 tank, and this is not the original resin since it was rebed by the dealer about 5 years ago. We've lost a lot of water pressure which is instantly fixed by bypassing the softener system, and I've also done every other maintenance item I can think of to rule out any other problems (Cleaned brine tank and valve, cleaned and lubed the softener head gears, valves and o rings, replaced pre filter). Pressure got worse with time and the only thing left to do is rebed the tank. I'm going to include the specifications I have for the softener and what I plan to rebed it with in case anyone sees any concerns with my plan.
Specs
City Hard Water
Kinetico Essential Platinum single tank
Empty Bed Volume: 1.0 cubic feet
Media Volume: 0.6 cubic feet
Free Board: None
Media Type: Non-Solvent, High Capacity Cation Resin
Resin I plan to use: Aldex 10% Cross-Linked Resin ( C-800x10 )
When I opened the tank up, at the top were these white plastic type beads. I don't think it's resin, and since the specs say no free board, I assume this is just some plastic filler to fill the free space above the 0.6 cubic foot of resin, or is this another type of filter media? Pic below, please help me identify what this is and what the name for it is. Plastic filler was the closest I could find by googling but I'm hoping someone here knows for sure what it is and what it's called.
Since the dealer rebed this, is this even the correct thing to be in here? What should go in the other 0.4 cubic feet of the tank if there is no free board?
My plan...
-dump everything out and clean the tank and the tube+baskets
-put the lower basket and tube back in the tank and tape the top of the tube
-pour in the Aldex, not yet sure how to exactly measure out 0.6 cubic feet?
-while pouring I will shake/tap the tank as I believe it is supposed to be a packed bed
-then pour on top of the Aldex resin whatever this white stuff is until the tank is full like in the pic
-reassemble, force a regen, and should be done
Hope someone can help, TIA!
