Is it bad practice to extend a well poly pipe with a double nipple?

I'm working on a well at my property that was in a pit and buried. I dug it out and brought it up above grade with a pitless adapter.

My question is there is a nasty piece of rusty pipe at the top of the poly pipe that I was going to cut off and use a nipple to hook up to the pitless adapter. But the pump will loose about 5 feet of height.

I measured the pipe and it is about 120 feet. The water level of the well was about 10 feet below grade. I'm not sure if this is the normal height.

I have a length of poly pipe I could set the pump at the original height but it would have a joint.

Putting in a pitless should not have raised the top of the drop pipe significantly. The pitless should be down below the frost level, and the drop pipe does not go far into the area of the casing that you extended.

You should have hung the SIDR pipe from the pitless adapter with an extra-long fitting. https://deanbennettsupply.com/products/46833/SSMAXL-100-1-SS-MALE-ADPT That accepts 3 worm-gear clamp. https://merrillmfg.com/collections/stainless-steel-insert-fittiings

But if you did need to extend the drop pipe, I think you would prefer an extra-long barbed nipple. I don't know where to find that. A 160 ft well may not be deep enough to make that necessary.

10 ft static water level is higher than the great majority of 160 ft wells. If your pump is 25 ft above the bottom, that is probably OK.

I was going to remove this pipe. It is pretty crusty . It's only 5 feet so I don't think it Will affect it much. But yes the pitless is only a few inches above the old casing.

Yep, you will want that gone. It would be best to order up a long fitting that will screw into the bottom of the new pitless.

Measure the OD of your polyethylene pipe. That will be substantially bigger than the nominal pipe size. The barbed fittings (AKA insert) are identified by nominal size.

The lifting pipe is normally not kept in the well. Typical is 1 inch NPT. You can use either galvanized or PVC schedule 80 or more. A T-handle is typically put at the top that both serves as a handle to lift the pipe and prevents the pipe from falling down the well.

What pitless do you have?

It's a 1 inch stainless Merrell. It looks like most of the adapters out there. And the drop pipe is 1" Polly pipe.

I made up the puller t handle already

Looking, I found the Merrill SSMBI100. It has the barbs already built in. Is that what you got, by chance?

Or maybe SSMB50
