Hey folks,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas that don't involve removing the tile. I have an old Grohe split shower unit, with a main temperature valve, and then two secondary valves, one for the overhead and one for the sprayer. The sprayer drips pretty badly, so I'd love to replace the stem. The problem I'm having involves the trim extension behind the tile. It looks like the installer use a piece that goes to just inside the hole on the tile, then used a 2 inch extender (see pics.) I don't know if this is normal, as I'm in no way a professional plumber, but my uncharitable thoughts are that this is _______ stupid, and it should either be one long piece, or at least long enough to extend out of the wall.
The issue (again, see pics) is that I can't get the valve out, because I can't get the trim out. I was kind of hoping that something like a reverse threaded 3/4 pipe would be a thing, so I could screw that on and keep turning, but it doesn't look like that's available. Any ideas?
