Hello everyone,

We're remodeling our 1980 (although I believe the shower valve was replaced in the early 2000s). We'd like to upgrade the shower handle trim kit. The old escutcheon has an American Standard sticker but I have no idea what cartridge this is. I'd really like to avoid the cost of having to replacing the entire valve...it works fine and doesn't leak (and my wife wisely forbids me from sweating copper connections). I recently ordered the American Standard TU184507.295 trim kit that includes the cartridge (P/N M970654-0070A ) but I don't know if the new cartridge will fit the existing valve. If needed, I can provide more pictures.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Regards.

This is your american standard cartridge...see pics below...Hopefully it's not to late to offer unsolicited advice but.....
when you were down to your studs you really should put in a modern valve. this is an outdated shower valve. The trim and the cartridge will become harder and harder to find parts for.
just my opinion....
good luck.
