Not necessarily well related but is pump related.
I'd like recommendations on the best/most reliable way to pump water out of a canal. This would be seawater from a shallow canal behind a home. See picture below for an example. Just need 40-60 psi to feed small desal unit. Would need to stay within several feet of the edge of the canal to not impede boat traffic, and the depth here may be only 3'.

I appreciate any tried and true ideas!

Call a couple of pump companies that deal with stainless pumps and sea water. You also need gpm, length and size of pipe. Might also think of pre filters or strainer.

I appreciate the input. I will definitely consult with a pump manufacturer or local distributor that has experience in this area.

I guess I was more looking for any ideas or experience on how to construct an actual intake in the canal. Of course that does depend on style of pump used and where it is located. I'm imagining the best scenario for ease of installation would be a pump that can be located onshore with an intake in the water. And if so, then trying to design an intake that can fluctuate with water level, avoiding floating debris and bottom sediment.

A cage around the foot valve doing the pickup would keep big debris and fish away from clogging the foot valve screen.

Trash pump hose and end with a bucket strainer for fine debris or bag filter.
