I have 120 ft deep well, and pulling it is very heavy because the pipe is full of water. Is there a way to drain the water without removing the check valve the pump? This well is for irrigation only.

I know this is a bit of a hack but I considered drilling a small hole at the bottom of the drop line just above the pump to allow water to weep out.

Since it's for irrigation, no pressure tank or pressure switch? I'm probably not qualified to answer your question but I'm sure someone will ask.

It definitely can't be done if you have a pressure tank/switch and the only check valve you have is at the pump. If you drilled a hole, your pump will continually cycle as your system loses pressure due to water draining out of the pipe.

Yes, no pressure tank or pressure switch. Just turns on if the irrigation controller tells it to.

It is best to drill a hole in the flapper of the check valve on the pump. That lets the water drain back slowly so it doesn't spin the pump. A hole in the drop pipe will stir up the well and waste some of the water from the pump. Either way the pipe will drain each time the pump shuts off. The downside is all that air has to come out when you turn the pump on.
