We recently tried to replace the broken diverter valve on a Delta 2600/2800 three-handle valve assembly on a bath tub.

The part of the assembly that the diverter assembly part RP17730 inserts into does not feel calcified but there is too much friction when trying to rotate it with the part RP25592 that it attaches to. I've read in reviews about the diverter assembly that others have had the same problem but I though that was because they were not using an OEM part. I am using OEM (supposedly) but the friction is greater than it should be and I am afraid that something else will soon break on these plastic parts.

I've ordered a honing tool that will go down to 3/4" diameter to see if I can manage to polish up the inside of the valve body where the diverter assembly is inserted in order to reduce the friction. I'm not optimistic about success because it is already reasonably smooth.

Others have sanded down the little piece of plastic on the diverter assembly that rubs on the inside of the valve body. I've not tried that yet. Do any of you have any other way to deal with what appears to be a common issue in swapping these diverter assemblies out?

Thanks.
