I recently replaced my submersible well pump that originally was used for my irrigation system. There is 2" PVC coming up through the slab that feeds the zone valves. I capped it temporarily. My question is how big of an expansion tank and how to make the connection from the poly to the PVC. There is an existing 25 gallon expansion tank on the line that feeds my outside hose bibb from the well. Can I get rid of that one and install a larger tank for both the irrigation and hose bibb? Someone told me I could pipe the irrigation line where the pipe plug is.

For irrigation, you don't always need a pressure tank. You need a pressure tank if there is a pressure switch, but you can have the controller turn the pump on and off as an alternative.

How many hours per year are you irrigating? You can tune the irrigation system to take what the pump can deliver. So you use bigger or smaller nozzles so that no cycling on and off occurs. Or you can use a CSV to throttle the pump output back to what the irrigation system can accept. That way you don't have to tune your nozzles/emitters.

With a CSV, the pressure tank could be small.
