Brass has lead and zinc in it. Not legal for potable water. You need to look for solutions that aren't brass if that is your concern.
Ummm, no. “Lead free” does not mean zero lead, it means no more than 0.25% lead on the wetted surface. There are tons of brass fittings and pipes that are rated for potable applications. Literally both of the valves I linked to in the original post are brass and are suitable for potable water usage.
