I had an emergency at my mothers house where her basement was flooded due to the Everbilt MBA050BC sump pump tether float switch failure. There was a short inside the float cable right where it's clipped/tethered. If I bent the tether cable a certain way, the pump would work and I emptied the entire basement that way. lol. Anyway, I replaced the float and the pump works great. The weep hole squirts nicely.
But my question is, when the pump is engaged and the water level goes past the top of the pump, I hear this hissing or air sound that gets louder as the water level lowers further. It seems to be coming from the top of the pump in this "grommeted" (1/2" dia.) area (see attachment) just adjacent to where the tether clip screws-in. If I put my finger on this spot, I can alter the hiss so I know it's coming from that spot. Is this normal? What is that small round thing? Thanks so much.
UPDATE: Yes. I think that "valve" is supposed to be there.
