The dishwasher was draining and water was found on the floor in front of the cabinets. Nothing is wet under the dishwasher door. This appears to have come from behind the cabinets. I have no clue why there was a leak. A tight spot finally cracked? A critter chewed a hole? Who knows!
This kitchen was remodeled about 9 years ago. I replaced the water supply line 4 years ago. I got wire and tape to connect the new line to the old and just pulled the old out and the new was still connected so it was an easy job!
The set up - beside the sink cabinet is a 3 inch gap then a Lazy Susan corner cabinet then the dishwasher. The supply line comes in to the sink cabinet from a side hole. The dishwasher drain comes in to the sink cabinet from the back. I saw photos from before the cabinets were put in. There were small sections of wall cut out behind the cabinet area. It looks like the drain line is leaving the cabinet at an angle. In measuring it appears there is maybe 1 inch between the back of the cabinets and the wall. They either have the drain house going out between studs or they cut a stud for the hose to run. Spray insulation fills the hole. The drain hose will NOT budge!
Possible opening? At the backside of the dishwasher is dining area. There is a wall under the counter - 2X4 covered with paneling. There is a granite countertop. My thought is to remove the paneling under the countertop, from the corner to the dishwasher, so I can see everything. I'm hoping that the sides of the cabinets do not go down to the bottom back corner. I'm hoping they stop 3 or 4 inches from the back so there is room for hoses to run. I can not imagine anyway I'll be able to thread a new drain hose through the old hose route in the wall. I think I will need to cut a new hole in the side of the sink cabinet, use that 3 inch gap to get the hose behind the corner cabinet, then around the corner cabinet and to the dishwasher.
Now, I do NOT want to remove paneling again to replace anymore corrugated plastic drainpipe. Has ANYONE used PEX as drain pipe? What about washing machine drain hose? I want something more durable then these current drain hoses!
My wife bought and remodeled this house with local workers, some in a drug rehab program, about 9 years ago. We've been married 5 years. I'm a sort-of-handyman. I do NOT want to do ANYthing wrong with my wife's cabinets!
Please - help me to be a hero!
