Had my 60-year old kitchen double sink galvanized steel drain pipe replaced with PVC. Plumber ran PVC and installed an AAV. Dishwasher has very high loop which drained into disposer. Plumber installed a standpipe with dishwasher drain hose going into straight section and leaving the wye section open.
The wye is below the bottom level of sink. Looks to me that if we get a backup, it would first dump water out of the wye into the cabinet and we may not even know that we have a problem. Looking for recommendations.
In Colorado, so I know that code rules
My thoughts are.
1. Seal off wye. Leave drain line in standpipe.
2. Install extension on wye so that it is at same level as standpipe And above bottom of sink so we can see a backup in sink before it dumps.
3. Re-install drain line onto disposer and seal and abandon standpipe.
other?
Also, it seems that AAV is pretty useless if the standpipe and disposer is providing air for drain?
Thanks for help.
