The aquifer under Miami is shrinking, to replace it, the volume would have to be huge, lawmakers decided that replacing those fluids... with sewage, would be a good idea. Do you think it's a good idea?
What is the future of water in the US? It was always what separated us from third world countries. There is plenty of reading material out there that suggests that good clean water my no always be ours to have.

Israel is a leader in desalination. They export their technology to their hostile neighbors in the middle east and Africa... and now to India, which is about to become world's most populated country.

The USA will have to follow this path, one way or the other, OR reclaim poop water.
The choice is up to water providers and their customers.

The US does have some desalination plants, it's just that they are not widespread...they're not cheap to run. That's one reason, many of them in the middle east are places where they produce oil.

FWIW, the space station uses recycled water...it can be done safely, and in places where the land is subsiding because we're drawing too much water out of the aquifer, putting back enough to keep things stable has some additional long-term benefits.

In 1970, Republican President Richard Nixon signed an executive order creating the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It was a time when pollution made many of our nation's rivers and streams unsafe for fishing or swimming. Back then, New York City's air pollution was so thick that you often couldn't see the city's iconic bridges.
