Hello! I've never posted here before, and I'm sure this is just the most stupid question ever, but I'm kind of at my wits' end. :) I have replaced my toilet flapper about 6 times and still can't find one that works. I doubt I need to say this, but I know nothing about plumbing, and I would looooove any advice anybody can offer me.

Here's some info about my toilet:
  • The pipe seems to sit just a little bit to far back from the drain, so when the flapper is on, water still seeps through from the part of the flapper that sits farthest away from the pipe. It might be okay for a few days after I replace the flapper, but then the suction from the water drainage seems to pull it in to the drain.
  • It's a 2 inch drain.
  • There are no flapper arms on the pipe.
  • There's some weird thing that I thought might be arms sticking up from the left side of the drain. However, it just sticks straight up on both sides (doesn't stick out horizontally like arms), and feels like it has a hole in each side that something could insert into.
My problem: Flexible flappers don't seem to work, because of the first point mentioned above. I really want the next flapper I buy to be the right one, so I'm looking for help. I have looked at rigid flappers, but because the pipe seems to sit too far back, I don't think it will cover the drainage hole unless I can find a seal that's slightly larger than the flapper (do they make those?). Should I just buy a 3 inch flapper and hope it will work? Is there one you would recommend that might fit correctly on a two inch (I'm worried the part that sticks out on bottom will be too big)? Any other ideas? I'd hate to buy a new toilet because I can't figure out the flapper. :)

Thank you in advance for your help!
