When I plunge the drain, it spits water out the emergency drain. Does that mean the clog is higher than the p trap? It takes maybe 3-4 seconds for the water to back up. Plunging results in nasty grey water and all this sludge coming out. The p trap was clear, but I had already bought stuff to replace it so now it’s brand new. I can’t access the other pipes without sawing through. I’m trying to fix this for my parents while they’re out of town. Any advice would be appreciated!

Update, definitely in the PVC pipe that’s glued together. The water goes through the metal pipe just fine when everything is apart.

You can unscrew the AAV, and run a snake down.

I might shove a hose with a medium drain bladder down. You would want a more flexible garden hose. You would want a helper to remotely turn on and off the water to the garden hose.

Have a shop vac that can such water? Pull the aav and plug it or piece of heavy sheet plastic and a rubber bands. Suck the drain out. Tooth paste is a problem.
