One of the screws holding my shower drain cover broke off and I am trying to figure out the best option. The screw is very small and I am not sure that I can drill it out and use an extractor.

Any suggestions?

you're going to try 2 things. 1st the extracter which is going to fail. then drill and tap it. But first find a new replacement screw and drill to that size.
