I know that if the end of the bowl refill hose is below the tank water level, siphoning will result in water being pulled from the tank and down the overflow tube. But I have noticed that on my newer toilet (and it seems all new fill valves I look at) the bowl refill hose is attached to a clip that holds the end of the hose at least 1/2" above the opening of the refill tube. All of my older toilets came with a small metal clip which leaves the end of the bowl refill hose down inside of the overflow tube. On these toilets the tank level is approximately 1" below the top of the overflow tube and the refill hose is definitely higher than that. But would it be a good idea to get a newer clip to raise the bowl refill hose some? Do they have it higher now just to ensure the end of the bowl refill hose stays above the tank level? I did notice that the newer toilet with the plastic clip has the tank water level set much closer to the top of the overflow tube (I'm thinking it was 3/8") than the older toilets did (1"). Thanks.
