I have tried and I can't fix the leak on softener. Trying to decide between replacing it myself or hiring a professional. Are there any good softeners I can get at Lowe's or Home Depot or they all junk?

Have you searched past posts? Try 5800SXT as a search term. You really should look at past posts.

The all-in-one units are not junk, and have their advantages. Typical life without repair might be 10 years. But cabinet type softeners are usually replaced rather than repaired. The makers do offer parts and troubleshooting help, but treating them as replacable units is common.
