Antifreeze in oil burner/radiant baseboard heating system

For a house in Maine, I'm wondering what the customary opinion is on using (plumbers) antifreeze in the radiant baseboard system using an oil burner. Do most plumbers/HVAC use antifreeze or just water? It would be an advantage in case the system failed in prevent breakage due to freezing in the pipes, but it may damage seals and other components. What do most people do? Thanks!

Glycol has to be made for boiler / chilled water Not automotive. With the proper glycol the manufacturer charts list two temperature ranges. One for total freeze protection the other for slurry ( ice crystals) won't freeze hard. Minimum concentration is 30% for the inhibitor package. If the water has a foul order or turning black system needs to be flushed. Glycol in system won't hurt pump seal or any other. Can use straight water but would recommend a boiler treatment like Rectoseal 9 way boiler treatment quart for most residential systems. Is there any glycol jugs around for the type? If its green its probably ethylene automotive and might not be able to be drained into a sewer system. Don't recommend with a system with glycol that make up water is not turned on after all the air is out. If there is a small leak the water over time will get diluted till there isn't any protection. Low water cut should be used to turn off the boiler in a low water condition.
