Anti-siphon removal damaged hose bib threads

In removing a hose end frozen to an anti-siphon valve I was a bit too zealous with my moto-tool and slit the threads (see photo).

Hose screws on tight, but leaks, of course. Bib replacement is not a viable option. It is in the garage and will have a hose reel system attached to it.

I am thinking of just epoxying or JB welding the hose female to the bib as it will see irregular use and not stay under pressure. I am also considering same but with a quick-connect. I also wonder if I fill the cut with epoxy and then use my thread chaser to clean the threads that it might solve the issue.

Any suggestions on how to work-around (short of replacing bib ;)) appreciated.

I've not seen a threaded hose bibb replacement that wasn't viable as an option.
epoxy will not bond well in this situation. Braze with brass but the close thread/ hose thread will be impossible

I think AOJEL might work, I just need to keep it from getting out of hand.

AOJEL has a SHORE of 85-90 and brass is 60-90 (a hose bib is not cold hardened, so it's on the low end). The AOJEL will just 'plug the leak' so to speak.

I'm also looking at Flex Seal paste. It's cheaper than AOJEL and rather than filling the cut, it would just seal over the cut.
 
Hose threads seal with a hose gasket face to female hose fitting. Looks ate up. Time to replace whole faucet.
Actually, (as I said) the hose screws on tight, but since the seal base is compromised, it leaks. I should add that Ben Franklin quoted me $600 to replace the bib. if I had known plumbers made that kind of money I would have skipped engineering and gone vo-tech.

Threads don't make any seal here, they just allow the hose female to compress the washer between the two sealing faces. If it leaks either the hose can't get tight enough, or the sealing face on the bib is damaged. With how handy you seem I would just buy a replacement, turn water off, unthread the old bib, thread on the new and be done. A whole lot less work than trying to epoxy and rebuild the threads.

Bib is sweated on.

As I said, the threads are robust and are allowing the washer to compress against the sealing surface at the base of the spigot.

The leak is from the cut at that surface--see attached photo since you missed it earlier.

When I get back in a week or so I plan to try the Flex Seal paste.

Photo was not missed. It is still less work to replace than to try and jerry rig up some sort of patch, IMO.
 
Plumber wanted $600 to replace the bib and it involved tearing out the drywall on both sides. You should be aware that plumbers don't clean up the drywall mess after they are done, so there's some more coin.

This is hardly 'jury rig', what I was looking for was ways to resolve given the usage patterns of the bib, which aside from the thread cut is perfectly fine. This is an engineered solution to an issue and unlikely to be found on a plumbing site. That said, hope springs eternal.
 
I would file the sealing surface flat and have used a SEAL GENIE GARDEN HOSE GASKET to prevent leaks such as this.

I am a plumber, we definitely don't patch drywall, and you don't want us to. $600 is not that expensive in my area for that replacement.

Don't misunderstand, for what he was going to do, that was a fair quote. My issue was what was going to be done and the need for a second contractor to close up. People do not realize the constraints put on a contractor--licensing, permits, inspections, insurance, etc.. If he screws up something (say the replaced bib starts leaking in the wall) then lawyers get involved and no one wants that. I asked him if he could remove the anti-siphon and he said it could not be done. It's also not allowed by code, sort of like asking an electrician to bypass a breaker.

This bib will have a reel attached and be left that way--no reason to disconnect and put anything else on, although that can be done if necessary (not anticipating it). As an engineer, if it ain't broke don't fix it. This solution was not to go cheap, but to solve the issue expediently and efficiently.

Now I want to explore the anti-siphon's operation and determine the utility of it in this instance.
 
The "SEAL GENIE GARDEN HOSE GASKET" did the trick. apparently these hose washers are made of unobtanium, but I finally found them at "How to Grow" where the shipping was more than the product.

The washers are very spongy silicone and easy fill-in irregularities in the bib seating surface, EVEN a thread cut!

Of course, after I attached my hose reel and brought it up to pressure, the leak was gone from the spout, but now it leaks from the stem! TG that is an easy fix.
