So, I've had thermocouples burn out on me more often than they should on this boiler; the last one, just replaced, lasted four years. The thermocople tip is a bright red but really too bright. The thermocouple is the screw in type with minimal adjustment left or right, to move it out of the pilot flame a bit.

I tried adjusting the pilot valve, counterclockwise to turn it down. After many turns, and the screw being depressed 1/2 inch or more, I get no change in the flame.

There still is some way to go, I think. Can I turn the screw all the way without fear of it being dropped or damaged?

Yes, I removed the first screw with the gasket. The inside screw is what I've been turning down/in.

Can I go all the way until it bottoms out without fear of damaging it? I'm just surprised there's been no change in the flame so far. Down 1/2-inch seems substantial.

Screw it all the down just stop when you hit bottom. There's very little difference between off and full
