i am having trouble getting water up to a second pad on my property.

Well depth: 100’
Water: 20’
Casing: 6”
Pump: Starite 2hp/15GPM
Elevation: 250’ (from well head, overestimated)
Pipe size and length: 400’ @1-1/4

I am currently not using a tank or pressure switch because the pump should sufficient enough to hit 250’@5GPM (per well company).

When I ran the pump and ball valve fully open, my PSI would only push 85. From what the math told me, I need at least 110psi with friction loss. Am I or the well company missing something?

TIA
-George

Looking at http://sta-rite.com/ResidentialProduct_sr_ws_4s_s15p4hs15231.aspx

Your head requirement is about 10+250+14o. The 140 is about 60 PSI at the far end for the sprinkler head. At total static head 400, plus some drop due to the water flowing through the pipes and elbows, looks like that pump should produce about 10 gpm. Less pressure at the far end, more flow.

You are measuring 85 PSI at the well? Either there is a lot of water flowing, or the pump is not working right.

If you close the ball valve for a few seconds, the pressure should go to about 220 PSI. That would be the deadhead pressure. Only a couple of seconds, because the pump motor needs flow for cooling.

At the well against a closed valve that pump should make 220 PSI. It should do 10 GPM at 60 PSI at the upper elevation. Is it a three phase pump? It could be running backwards. Happening a lot these days with pump guys pushing those variable speed pumps?
