In King County WA. For 3-compartment sink we have a single trap at the end of the sink pipe. However, the reviewer is requiring that the trap must come from the middle of the sink. This is based on the last sentence "the trap is centrally located where three compartments are installed". I've had inspectors tell me that having the trap at the end improves flow and simplifies the piping. Is there something in the code, or an interpretation that can get them to approve of the setup we have here?

we've been getting this in the seattle/kingco area too. Bellevue was the first jurisdiction the inspector insisted on this method. We're just going through plan review on a restaurant in Ballard

Any grief on the grease trap?

Don't know about the grease interceptor yet. They are asking for more calculations. Actually, the interceptor will be taking effluent from 4 commercial kitchens, each one has a flow control in addition to the flow control for the interceptor itself.

Sigh, will have the drawing changed (there goes more money...) and then see what the inspector actually wants.

Back in the 90's Seattle didn't care about grease. But they've become pretty strict on it now. 4 commercial kitchens is going to likely require a large exterior vault... I try to stay away from commercial kitchens these days, tho they used to be my specialty.

Why not consider the grease interceptor as a TRAP that has to be properly vented.

Grease interceptors must have a proper vent if it is the type that requires it. Not allowed to use the grease interceptor as a trap that I know of. Anyway I have a Central 75 GPM grease interceptor so that it'll be easy to pump out.
