Thanks for your write up on this! I also had an issue with the clogged kitchen sink and 25 feet 1/4" snake didn't help at all - water was standing still in the sink just like in your case. I tried pouring a gallon of the pipe cleaner (lye) after emptying the pipes and let it sit for 5 hours...
