    Uponor PEX problem ALERT

As posted elsewhere, I am having issues that are similar to yours Did you have a recirculating pump before you had to re-pipe? how is legend hyper pure working out for you?

Yes, the plan is to replace the product entirely. However, what to replace it with the issue. in this area, there are really very few other choices. All of the re-pipes I know about, and most of the new builds are using Uponor Pex. spoke with a supply warehouse yesterday where the guy told me...

Out of curiosity, do you have a Uponor pex in your home and do you have a hot water recirculation pump?

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

OK. Decision made to re-pipe both hot and cold. next decision is to choose which kind of material. I could either uponor pex-a again, pex b (like Zurn) or legend valve PE – RT. My reservation with legend valve pe-RT is that it has only been around less than 10 years. All of the plumbers...

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

Don’t know all of the details in other cases, but it seems like uponor has paid for some, and not for others. also, I think uponor has almost all of the market share in this area for Pex. many of the plumbers use it exclusively on all new builds and remodels. so if I go back in with pex...

    3. Yes custom build. 5. from what I am able to gather, the thinking here is that the recirculation pumps are responsible for the pipe failure, may be because of increased velocity, maybe they were incorrectly sized, who knows what else. But of course, nobody knows. So they go back in with the...

So, are you suggesting going with copper or another brand of Pex?

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

    1. All hot line failures have been on three-quarter inch line. I had one under the slab 0.5 in cold line fail also, but my plumbers think it is unrelated based on how pipe looks 2. Yes. A lot of yellowing and discoloration. Some are evenly discolored. Some have splotchy yellow spots every few...

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

Two want to re-pipe with uponor, one with copper, and one with non-uponor pex. Will get final quotes in the next few days from everyone. of course, I expect copper to be expensive, with higher patchup cost also. I have owned the house for two years and have never had a recirculation pump in...

I agree. It is time to re-pipe both hot and cold lines. Stick with Uponor Pex, or go to Copper? I know copper is more expensive, but what really concerns me also, is the extra demolition that would need to be done with copper.

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

interestingly, two of the three plumbers I’ve talk to so far have suggested just doing the hot side. They have done other houses in the area and the leaks are always on the hot side. One plumber even suggested just doing the main trunk of the hotline, since that is what was presumably wrecked by...

thank you. This has been very insightful. I am getting quotes for repping both the hot and cold side. What other brand of peX do you recommend, besides Uponor? also, the quotes are all over the place in terms of cost. What is an acceptable range for 5500 square-foot house with five full...

Yes, any time you file a claim wit’s Uponor, you waive your right to any further action. It pretty much says that on their claims webpage. And they are finding reasons to deny a lot of claims, at least in this area.

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

Yes, that is what I am leaning towards doing. I don’t think these leaks are going to stop on their own. I am going to repipe both the hot and cold, and I am actively soliciting quotes. In the meantime, I am getting advice on how to proceed with warranty claims with the manufacturer. This forum...

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

My pex is not colored. It is clear Friday. I have not filed a claim with Uponor yet. this is because I have heard that they are denying claims, and once they deny the claims, you have no other legal recourse. Is that correct?

Multiple leaks uponor pex 2012 home

2012 house, I have been here for two years. Whole house uponor pex. Clear PEX in March 2023, I had a leak on the hot water side in upstairs closet approximately 10 feet from the water heater. At the time, Plumber told me that the Pipe was brittle and was cracking in several places and that I...

Do I need a pressure reducing valve?

I guess in my case, since it is set to the factory precharge of 40 psi, and the incoming pressure is 75 psi, the tank is essentially useless right now.
