    Transition cement

Gary- as I said, I've taped and doped a male adaptor of either ABS or PVC, and screwed it into a female adaptor of the other type of plastic, to avoid "ferncos" because I didn't understand their proper use.If there's ABS present I tie into it with PVC because I've read that ABS crazes, but...

    Transition cement

In my county, DWV can be CI, galv, copper, PVC, or ABS. I've seen a green pipe cement called "transition cement" that's permitted for joining ABS to PVC. Any comments or experiences? Thanks!

    Water Ridge faucets and Costco???

I once installed a pair of Glacier Bay shower fixtures for a client who'd bought them himself. One of the cartridges had the flat on the stem positioned differently from the other. When I called tech support, "Bob", (with an Indian accent) took 20 min to conclude that I needed a new stem. He...

    Find Gas Leak

Here in Akron Ohio the gas co. tests 4# for 3 minutes, or it's 3# for 4 min. Old test was 10 for 10; I use 5 for 5. I DID once blow the seal on one of the old valves packed w/ grease by testing @ 20#. Anybody know what type of grease can be used to repack those? Not the ones w/ rubber, these...

    Leak on sink tail

I 'll assume this is a lav. Is this the average Moen plastic popup assembly? If so, it'll break before the sink does. Once, I found that the openning in the bottom of the sink was irregular, told the client, and used silicone sealer. I'm sure there are other approaches to be found here.

    Cast iron Connection Problem

I'm not a longtime pro, but dcelites method has always worked for me. Make sure the two cuts are NOT a "pie wedge" or it'll never come out. I always try to do the opposite-my two cuts are closer together at the threads. Then knock it out w/ a chisel, and unscrew. Once or twice I've had to repeat...

Frenchie-it's abundantly clear that you took a fair amount of time creating your answer. It really qualifies as a tutorial! Thank you VERY much. Thanks to all others who replied as well. condos, licenses and insurance I am not licensed but I DO have commercial insurance thru Nationwide. If you can get it you need to.Be up front with your agent abput no license! To do otherwise is fraud, and voids coverage. An attorney told me I was " running down the street naked in a...

Can anyone help me learn how to scan in a paper drawing, and attach it to my posts here, using windows xp? I don't want to waste people's time with explanations that are clear only to me. Perhaps a private message reply is appropriate, unless others want to know, too. Thanks!

old galv drain in concrete bathroom floor

Doherty-I don't have pics of one o' these really fun jobs, but one's coming up. The reason the clients want to save the floors is they've usually kept the entire home original except for adding ceiling fans or suchlike. Often the original wallhung toilets have been kept in good repair, and...

old galv drain in concrete bathroom floor

HJ-I have no idea why the pipe is partialy in the concrete, but it is common around here, in homes built circa 1920-1940. They laid the pipes in notches in the tops of the joists, which were slightly lower than the rest of the house. Sometimes the fixture end was above the top of the joists, or...
