Pressure relief valve for boiler system is leaking

I've got it down to a very small amount of dripping (maybe a cup a day), and while we do have oxygen in our water supply the bleed valve has been working perfectly so no problems there. Also, the boiler is fed soft water, the output from the relief valve is clean as a whistle, and the...

Pressure relief valve for boiler system is leaking

Thanks fellas. I'd been especially concerned about replacing the valve when I thought it had a female inlet and a very short M-M nipple to the boiler's female connection--I was not even sure I could get the bloody things apart given the mineral deposits and corrosion, much less get it together...

Pressure relief valve for boiler system is leaking

System is 12 years old and to my knowledge the relief valve has not been exercised per recommended "every two months", so when I opened the lever to release some water, it didn't seal again properly "of course". Thankfully the Apollo 10407 30PSI valve has only been drip-drip-dripping so I'm...

    Hydronic Zone Valve Partially Open

I have a different boiler system but have had two zone valves fail recently so your post caught my eye. I don't see a partially open valve being any kind of problem besides possibly "gets too hot" in that area and/or it siphons hot water from other zones that need it more. It's now weeks later...

    Odor After UV Light

I dunno UV light effect in your case, but it may be possible that it is creating ozone O3 within your water that has dissolved oxygen in it. Ozone will dissipate in air as you've said, and does smell "metallic" but in my own experience it's not unpleasant (though my Wife doesn't like it--she...

    Buried Water Softener?

I can imagine burying resin and brine tanks and heating a smallish shed above ground as Reach4 has said, but IMO these things don't take-up enough space inside your house to make these efforts worthwhile. In Blanco County (well south of Dallas of course) I set-up all manner of precautions for...

Culligan Super S: Excessive Bleach usage?

What is your Regen interval set to? Manual says settable from 1 to 42 days. According to "the previous owner" they must have had it set to 30 days for it to use 1 gal bleach/month. I must concede the manual is bizarre. Says "can recharge automatically as often as daily [yes, from 1 to 42...

Culligan Super S: Excessive Bleach usage?

Okay well I've never seen such before, but right there in the manual pg 14 it says: So each regen requires a new gallon. How many times/month does it regen?

Culligan Super S: Excessive Bleach usage?

Bleach? Do you mean instead the ResCare feeder? The solenoid on my Culligan HE failed and rather than spend $250 for just the part I add it manually now.

    Black things in my tank

The new salt is likely "dirty" and brought with it the particulate matter. Doubt it's any health issue, but such is why everyone's brine tanks need to be emptied and cleaned periodically--HOW periodically depends on the salt used and how bad one's water is of course.

Need help with plan of attack on filtration/softening/smell eradication of well water

Dunno your weather there but in Texas we had a 705ft deep well with stinky water and what worked was to use the submersible pump to spray water into a 1000gal polyurethane tank above ground, and then use a shallow well pump to draw from it and pressurize the house. Possibly not an option for...

Do Softeners Dissolve Built Up Hardness in Pipes?

Another possibility is that the chemistry of the OP's water changed somehow, so it feels less "slimy". FWIW my wife was unhappy with the feel of the softened water at our other house. Because I could, I changed the pellets there from Potassium to Sodium chloride, and she is happy again...

    Corrugated Stainless Steel Pipe

This. Well, I haven't seen every hose on the planet but have always believed this.

    Staining from soft water?

My initial thought was that there might be metal corner bead behind the sheetrock that is rusting.

Inherited Plumbing for a Water Softener

Yup we HAVE a softener and it wasn't making silky enough H2O for Wife's hair, but when I switched from Potassium to Sodium Chloride crystals that made her happy again. Not sure why but it worked. Re: "relatives...that stay for weeks at a time" don't they know that relatives and fish smell after...

I got some shitty water! Whole house RO recommendations?

My opinion is that you need a local company's expertise to deal with your situation both for installation and for maintenance. When I lived in Texas our well was 705ft deep with hideous water and we switched to rainwater collection (possible cuz moderate outside temps). A neighbor had a whole...

Complete noob with a new softener…please help!

FWIW I have learned that "slippery water" is not always a given. We have two homes with two different softeners using the same Morton salt, and one house feels slippery and the other notsomuch. I have surfed like crazy on this, and tt'ed Customer Service about it, and as far as I can tell the...

    Culligan water softener regeneration issue

Well you'd start by identifying the model of the softener and then securing installation and owner's manuals for it, so that you can check all the settings. Regen every day is not normal of course.

Complete noob with a new softener…please help!

You'd do well to get a Hach test kit and compare the hard water at the kitchen faucet to a tap that is supposed to be soft. They DID place the softener where both cold and hot lines throughout the house are soft, yes? Mixing doesn't work at all.

Well water help / advice needed

Mine has "demand override" setting as well--I think in my case you can set it for "any day of the week" and it will regen if no other regen has taken place. It wasn't a "factory default" setting I don't think--anyway I've made sure mine is off. Of course if the OP turns-off his well pump...
