Multiple water heaters with recirculation pump.

Late to the party with a thought, but just saw this thread. I have had recirc problems due to copper pipes buried in the slab with no insulation ( think unwanted radiant floor heat!!). It was costly running the recirc, so we found a solution where we could turn on the recirc pump via a remote...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

Pulled the pump this am. Found hole in pipe at 560', pump at 610'. Hole was about 3/8" long by 1/8" wide. Static Water level at 400' ( GOOD!). Since it's a community well, and pump is 8 yrs old, going to replace pump, motor and 10 Sticks of Galvanized ( all that was under water). Pump...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

Impact to users 1) well shut off due to overload- No water for several hours while we troubleshot 2) Power usage per pump cycle has gone up 5x since Feb. Time to refill pressure tanks up 2-3x. Now about 11 minutes for 69 gal recharge ( 3 - 86 gal tanks). Assume it will only get worse...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

received two quotes to repair / replace the system. Prices were similar. One uses Franklin Pump 5 hp, 20 GPM, the other uses Grundfos Pump 5 hp, 35 GPM. Any thoughts on which might be a longer lasting pump? I'm leaning toward the Grundfos- had good luck with them on other...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, the current pump is about 7-8 yrs old. Would that still be in the timeframe for the "better Quality" pumps? Only quote we have gotten so far is to replace both the pump and the motor ( two separate prices). Any chance one or the other existing parts...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

Thanks so much for all of the help. It really helps to get the advice of experts, since I know little about wells. Starting the process of getting bids to fix the problem. I would like some input from you folks so that I can speak intelligently to the bidders, and also so I know what to...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

Based on the numbers I have been able to get, Schd 120 PVC is only good to 360 psi in 1", and only 2 hp. We would just get by at the 360 PSI number, but not with the HP. For 5 hp, you have to go up to 2" , and then the PSI goes way down to the 200 range. I know people fudge these specs, but...

Thanks. Consensus seems to be a hole in the pipe, which makes a lot of sense.

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

Well is on it's own meter. Info I reported is in KW hours used, as I can see that in 15 minute intervals on the Energy website. It's easy to see when the well kicks on and runs , as there are usually about 15 Spikes in the usage, from o KW to .75KW. The Pump Runs about 10-11 minutes to...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

Thanks for the inputs. Group will have to get together and discuss how to proceed, but probably going to have to pull and inspect. Pipe replacement is probably necessary, and if we pull the pump, should we replace it as well (8 yrs old)?

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

As far as I know, the pump is 5 hp, 20 GPM. Probably a multi stage pump, but we cannot access the paperwork. It functioned well up until a few months ago, where the GPM rate dropped in half or worse. Why we think it may be a pipe leak. No leaks above ground. It was running almost...

    Well pump Electric usage tripled

We have a community well, 4 houses, 8 people total. We use about 1500 gal/day total. We have 3 86 gal pressure tanks, set at 60/40 psi. The well is 650' deep, 8" casing, and has a 5 hp 20 gph pump installed. Static water level is somewhere between 500' ( when drilled) and could be as low as...

Whole house filter install on well system

I have a house that is on a community well system ( 4 houses). The feed into the house is 1 1/2" copper pipe. The 1 1/2" pipe travels across the top of the garage and terminates inside the wall of the house, where it feeds the water softener with 1" pipe. I want to break the incoming feed...
