    Greensand vs Greensand PLUS

I am going to re-bed my Greensand filter and noticed that Greensand-Plus seems to be the only product readily available. I have a Fleck 2510 atop a 1054 tank with a PotPerm oxidizer tank. It's been operating for 17 years. I figure its due for a refresh! All the reading I've done leads me to...

What type of calcite required for an up flow PH neutralizer

Spoke to a supplier and they set me straight. So all set here.

What type of calcite required for an up flow PH neutralizer

Update - doing a regen on the Softener did the job and there is now clean water with plenty of pressure running through the house. At this point I'm just looking for the correct media. Not urgent as I can contact one of the online softener outfits for a recommendation. But if anyone has some...

What type of calcite required for an up flow PH neutralizer

I’m helping a neighbor refill his up flow PH neutralizer and seem to have a problem. This is a non backwashing 10 x 54 tank without a valve. Just a bypass. He purchase some calcite which is very fine, and we refilled without a problem, until we ran the water. Is didn’t take long until the...

    New Hydrogen Sulfide problem

Got it. Thanks. I would only want to use liquid so may be less of a chance for leaving some residual behind. The granules might not dissolve quickly without agitation.

    New Hydrogen Sulfide problem

Could I use a liquid pool chlorine in place of bleach? Just thinking what to do if I cannot find an unscented, suitable bleach. Sam's club has Clorox "with CloroMax technology" and lists the ingredients as 7.5% Sodium Hypochlorite and the remainder as Other ingredients".

    New Hydrogen Sulfide problem

I already have the PH meter, and I just recalibrated it with the 3 different solutions. Glad to know you think that is a good way to go. Yeah, the old anode was probably gone. Once I get disinfect done and hopefully cleared up I'll look into that.

    New Hydrogen Sulfide problem

Thanks for your feedback. I have ordered some of the Hydrion Cm-240 test strips to measure the chlorine levels. They'll be here tomorrow, so other than smoking a brisket or ribs for the weekend, looks like I'll be treating my water. Although I've had a whiff of H2S from my old water heater...

Time to re-bed my PH Neutralizer....need to know how to pick media

Geez. I never got back with a final result. Sorry. That can always be helpful to folks doing research. I finally got a day above freezing mid winter and re-bedded the tank using 2 parts Calcite and one part Corosex. Works as expected right away. There were some chunks that had cemented...

    New Hydrogen Sulfide problem

Hello Everyone, My water has a hydrogen sulfide problem that started this winter. It has gotten increasingly worse as time goes by so it's time to take care of it. When it first started, I assumed it was my greensand filter because it was not sucking in the PotPerm as it should. After replacing...

Time to re-bed my PH Neutralizer....need to know how to pick media

Question about the Fleck 2510. Is it possible that the valve is bad and my water is bypassing the media? Although I've rebuilt a Fleck 2510 before and I have the parts on hand if needed, I do not know the logic of the flow paths inside of the valve. Thanks again

Time to re-bed my PH Neutralizer....need to know how to pick media

I have really nasty water with lots of clearwater iron. Once it oxidizes in a glass or bucket its very ugly. 3.4 mg/l from an old test I found. I do filter for iron using a 10x54 Fleck 2510 filter with greensand and pot perm, but that is after the PH neutralizer. Can I measure the backwash rate...

Time to re-bed my PH Neutralizer....need to know how to pick media

I have a PH Neutralizer in my water treatment system and am going to clean and refill it. There is still a fair bit of "media" remaining but it is not raising the PH. When I say a fair bit of media, its almost at the height of my last fill. It is a 10x54 tank with a Fleck 2510 Set to backwash...

    Mini-split sizing and selection help

Wayne, Thanks for your reply. I had to read it more than once to digest it :) 1. Basement. Very good point here. My basement is about 75% finished space with an in-law apt. As it is a walkout there is quite a bit of window space in the living area. R-19 in the floor between up and down. It is...

    Mini-split sizing and selection help

I just read up on the Blower Door test. It seems that the purpose is to determine air leakage. How does that relate to the Heat Load calculation? Does it effectively create a multiplier to the Heat Load Calc? i.e. - more leakage adds to the heat load? Thanks

    Mini-split sizing and selection help

Hello Everyone! First time posting. I would like to install a DIY mini-split in my house and am looking for some input on equipment selection. So far it appears that the MrCool DIY line of equipment is the most user-friendly package. I want to use a two-zone system with the ceiling cassettes...

Thanks again Ditttohead. Guess I'm all set. Off to read about Soda Ash injection!!

PH Neutralizer - Calcite or Soda ash?

Hello Ditttohead, Thanks for your input. OK, that makes sense. (i.e.- water that has been resting in the media vs water that is passing at top velocity. ) And I would agree with you about the equipment. It does not pay in the long run to buy inferior equipment. Follow on questions: 1.) What...

PH Neutralizer - Calcite or Soda ash?

Hello Everyone, I'm looking for some help with my PH Neutralizer which has been in operation for quite some time and does a moderate job at raising PH, but I never really liked the way it operates. It is a 10 x 54 tank and has a Fleck valve on top. In the past I underestimated the value of...
