    Advice for a smelly unused water heater

    I have a water heater in my shop that I don't need, so I turned the breaker off (to save on my electric bill). However, I have well water, and even though the water in the water heater is cold, it develops a sulfur smell. Would it be better to shut off the valve and drain it and leave it empty...
