How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

I was foolish enough to put a Watchdog alarm next to the pit. It worked, but it woke everyone up in the middle of the night. I exchanged it with a smart alarm that doesn't wake everyone up, but instead sends an alert to my phone. The GFCI is on the end of a circuit run, so if I understand...

How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

Thanks for the suggestion. I think a GFCI is now code for sump pumps here in NJ. I have a water alarm just outside of the sump basin.

How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

I assume it is normal for the sump pump to be louder now that is connected to PVC vs a lay flat hose. My guess is the PVC makes the sound travel better and also the PVC going through the rim joist can also add to the noise. Lastly, the check valve (which I did not have connected prior) could...

How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

Success! No leaks...at least not yet, you never know with plumbing. I'll probably use one of those 55" flexible downspout extensions during spring and winter if we ever get a lot of snow. I also plan to paint the exterior PVC the color of our siding with exterior latex. My understanding is this...

How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

Can I use a 2" hole saw through the rim joist for the 1 1/2" PVC or should I get a larger one?

How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

Yes. Good to know. The exposed pipe is on the north side of the home and doesn't receive any direct sun.

How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

Thanks. Here are a few other things I read before I DIY this for the first time: -I should measure my PVC lengths from socket to socket instead of dry, as the primer/cement soften the pipe and allow for further insertion. -I should drill a 3/16" weep hole angled up at a 45 degree angle just...

How to install PVC for sump pump with just one person?

When installing a 90 degree elbow to a horizontal piece that goes through the house to a crawl space, how does one person provide enough pressure on either side of the house to connect the two? I plan to have two people, but was curious how the pros do it.

Lined chimney for atmospheric water heater vent?

Thank you. I'll add it to the "flip flop" list. ;)

Lined chimney for atmospheric water heater vent?

We have a 2017 Bradford White atmospheric vent gas water heater. It is vented to a lined chimney (lined for the water heater) and the only appliance that uses the chimney. I'm trying to read the 2024 IRC chapter 24 for the rules on venting this type of appliance. My neighbor was told that gas...

    PVC discharge pipe location

Currently, I have a lay flat hose connected to my Superior Pump w/vertical float switch. It sits in a 12" wide by 14" deep terracota sump pit from the 50's. It works great at removing the ground water from the pit after a heavy rain, except that the hose tends to retract and I have to keep...

BLR Sensor Err on Buderus 2107

Any idea how to check the sensor on Buderus 2107? Is it a DIY thing, or is a pro needed?

Does turning off water main cause issues with boiler?

We turned off the water main in a vacant house we own. Would doing so adversly affect an oil fired boiler than heats the baseboards throughout the home? The boiler is currently flashing an error and I plan to investigater further today when we visit the home.

    Orangeburg, TerraCotta, or PVC?

Our home was built in the mid-50's. Most of the homes in the neighborhood had orangeburg used for the sewer lines and have since been replaced. I purchased the home in 1994 and (finger-crossed) have never had an issue with the sewer. However, I'd like to know if orangeburg was installed...

    Wall screws and vent stack?

Thanks folks. Sorry, not a chimney, just the toilet vent and luckily no water lines in the wall behind the toilet, just the vent going to the roof. Thanks for the reassurance in case I accidentally drive a screw through the vent.

    Wall screws and vent stack?

I haven't done this yet, but I can see it happening despite my best efforts. If I accidentally drive a screw through the plastic vent behind and above the toilet that leads to the roof, would it cause any issues? The portion that might be affected does not vent any sewage, it is just a chimney...

    Shower faucet without plaster ground

Thanks. Thankfully, no scraping. I actually got to use the shower today after creating a temporary L-shaped shower curtain rod out of PVC and 3M mounting strips. The glass door and panels will take about 5 weeks before installation by the pros. I'm attaching some photos, because I had a tough...

    Shower faucet without plaster ground

Here's how the trim kit looks installed. I'm pretty happy with how it looks and the distance of the handle from the escutcheon plate. Why doesn't Moen include the 7/64ths Allen wrench with a $400 trim kit? Fortunately, I had one in my tool box.

    Advice for shower arm installation.

Thanks Terry. I gave both a try but still had about a half turn to go. I decided to hire a pro from my hometown. For the cost of a service call, I got peace of mind that it was done correctly and know it isn't going to move at all when I need to adjust the shower head. IMHO, money well spent.

    Advice for shower arm installation.

Hmm...still doesn't quite line up with the extra tape. Any suggestions or tips? If I can get it hand tight to about 3:00, I'm comfortable using a screwdriver or handle of channel lock to tighten. Just not sure how to get it hand tight around the 3:00 position.
